Five short games back to back, in the style of the game batteries trading firms screen with. The rules change every time and you get about a minute to work each one out, which is the part that catches people rather than any single game.

What is in it
- Number Box. Make the target from all four numbers, using + - x / and brackets.
- Code Compare. Pick the option identical to the code shown.
- Pattern Guess. Deduce a hidden figure from how many of its properties you matched.
- Balloon. Pump for value, bank before it bursts.
- Indicator. Click while the dial is green, and not before.
221 points on a perfect run, but read the breakdown rather than the total: a real battery reports a profile, and the useful information is which game you were worst at.
Balloon is the one to think about
The burst point is uniform, so the expected value of stopping after k pumps is k x 5p x the chance it survives, and that peaks halfway up the range rather than at either end. Anyone who works that out beats anyone playing on nerve, which is exactly why a risk task sits in a trading battery.
What we are not claiming
Optiver publishes nothing about Zap-N: the game list circulating online comes from candidate reports and changes year to year, and no scoring, weighting or pass mark has ever been published. These five are written by simplytk from the kinds of task those reports describe, the timings are ours, and the points are ours. A real battery scores a cognitive profile, not a total out of anything.
