FAQ

Common questions

Does the tracker cover the US, India, Switzerland, the Gulf, Australia, Germany and the Netherlands?

Yes. Switch the market from the header or the tracker page and the board, the alerts and the opportunities list show that market. US summer internships, co-ops and new-grad roles across big tech, aerospace and defense, banking and quant trading, Indian internships and placements, Swiss Praktika and graduate programmes, Gulf summer analyst and national development programmes, German Praktika, Werkstudent roles, summer analyst programmes, Trainee intakes and Abschlussarbeiten, and Dutch quant internships, stages, traineeships and afstudeerstages are detected the same way as UK openings: straight from employers' own boards, within minutes. Alerts can follow one market or several.

How does the German market differ from the UK?

Germany does not run spring weeks. The standard route is the Praktikum, a three to six month full-time internship that can start in any month, often a Pflichtpraktikum your degree requires, and the Werkstudent job of up to twenty hours a week alongside the degree. Only the Frankfurt banks and the strategy consultancies run Anglo-style summer analyst programmes and batch deadlines. Graduate hiring is mostly a Direkteinstieg into a role rather than a scheme, with Trainee programmes starting in October or April. Switch the market to Germany and the programme filter uses those words; a Pflichtpraktikum is exempt from the minimum wage, a voluntary one over three months is not.

What is a stage, and when do Amsterdam quant firms hire?

A stage is the Dutch internship: five or six months, usually required by the degree, often ending in an afstudeerstage that doubles as the thesis. Dutch banks, insurers and corporates hire into stages all year and into traineeships that start in September. The Amsterdam trading firms (Optiver, IMC, Flow Traders, Da Vinci and the rest) run Anglo-style summer internships and graduate trader intakes: applications open from August for the following summer and most are filled on a rolling basis by December. Switch the market to the Netherlands and the quant and trading filter shows them.

When do spring week applications open?

Most UK spring week applications open between August and October. Quant and prop trading firms tend to open earliest, often in July or August. Investment banks typically open in August and September. Big 4 and professional services usually open in September and stay open until January.

What year do you apply for a spring week?

Spring weeks are aimed at first-year university students in the UK, or second-year students on four-year courses. You apply in the autumn of your first year for an internship the following spring.

I'm a first year in the US. What should I apply to?

Summer internships. US firms do not run spring weeks: freshmen and sophomores apply straight to summer internships, and many of the big tech, quant and banking firms run summer programs reserved for them. Switch the market to US, pick Summer internship and set the class year to Freshmen / sophomores to see the ones that say they take first and second years. Co-ops are the US equivalent of a placement year.

Should I apply early or wait?

Apply early. Many firms review on a rolling basis and close once they have enough strong candidates. The first few weeks of a window are usually less competitive than the final deadline.

What if I miss a deadline?

Some firms extend deadlines or reopen for specific events, but most do not. Build a shortlist here, star what matters, and set calendar reminders two weeks before each opening so you can batch your applications.

How fresh are the openings?

The tracker checks employers every few minutes and new roles usually appear within minutes of going live on the firm's careers site.
