Maven Securities online assessment
Built by Maven Securities
- Format
- Maven's Emerging Talent page lists four assessments and says which you sit depends on the programme and business area: a numerical test of mental maths ability (Maven points candidates at Zetamac to practise under timed conditions), a probability test, a HackerRank coding test for technology roles, and an Arctic Shores task-based assessment. For trading candidates the reported sitting is three timed tests: mental maths with no calculator or paper, number and letter sequences, and multiple choice probability on expected value, combinatorics, conditional probability and classic puzzles. Maven publishes one example, an 8-sided die rolled until two 8s come up in a row, expected rolls, with five options.
- Timing
- Reported at 50 maths questions in 5 minutes, 30 sequences in 6 minutes and 18 probability questions in 30 minutes, with several accounts of minus one for a wrong probability answer and nothing for a blank. Candidates from August 2026 describe a newer version: typed answers rather than multiple choice, a shorter probability block of about 20 questions in 10 minutes, and an added estimation question, one unknown quantity in two minutes with an 80 percent confidence interval and the reasoning explained aloud to the proctoring camera.
- What is uncertain
- Maven publishes no counts, clocks or marking; every figure above is a candidate report, the accounts disagree on whether the maths and sequences are typed or multiple choice and on whether wrong answers are deducted, and the older format was still being reported in late 2025, so prepare for both. Which programmes get the Arctic Shores stage, and in what order, varies by cohort and location in the reports. Maven's FAQ says you can apply to one Emerging Talent role a year and reapply the next cycle if unsuccessful.
- How to practise
- The Maven-Style Assessment runs the whole reported sitting in one go: typed maths, letter and number sequences, five-option probability with the deduction, and the estimation interval. Mental Maths has the 50 in 5 as a standalone mode, Sequences and Probability cover the middle sections, Fermi Estimation the last, and Arctic Shores-Style Tasks the game stage.
